The rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence (Generative AI, GenAI or AI) has profoundly impacted the preparation of application materials by high school students, which pose challenges to long-standing notions of authenticity and integrity in university admissions. While admissions have traditionally relied on independently produced work, this standard is increasingly misaligned with the realities of AI-assisted learning. This study advocates for a redefinition of authenticity in admissions, which view AI as a tool for student empowerment, particularly in developing higher-order thinking and ethical awareness, rather than solely as a threat to integrity. This study employs a qualitative analysis approach to examine the GenAI-related admissions policies of 13 representative universities among the top 30 institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2026. Based on this analysis, the study identifies four institutional response strategies: Zero-Tolerance Policy, Integrity and Disclosure Policy, Non-Evaluative Use Policy, and Exploration and Guidance Policy. Drawing from the researchers' extensive frontline experience in admissions policy development and review practices, the study proposes a four-dimensional framework for fostering AI literacy among admissions reviewers, including "knowing AI, using AI, evaluating AI, and governing AI", as a foundation for transforming admissions systems. Ultimately, this study aims to offer an actionable framework for enhancing fairness and public trust in university admissions in the age of AI, and to provide forward-looking recommendations for policy reform and educational practice.
