This study aimed to examine the differences and associations among family socioeconomic status (SES), parental support, and career adaptability in military cadets. A questionnaire survey was conducted using the Parental Support Scale, Career Adaptability Scale, and indicators of family SES (including parental education and occupation). Cluster sampling was employed, resulting in a valid sample of 1,117 cadets (846 males and 271 females). Statistical analyses included one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and moderated multiple regression. The results indicated the following: (1) cadets from higher SES families perceived significantly more career action support from their parents than those from lower SES backgrounds; (2) career adaptability was significantly associated with psychological support, career action support, and autonomy support; and (3) SES moderated the relationship between parental support and career adaptability. These findings suggest that family background, through the mechanism of parental support, plays a role in shaping cadets’ career development, with SES functioning as a moderating factor. This study enhances the understanding of how family factors influence career adaptability among military cadets and provides empirical evidence for military education and counseling practices.
