In this paper, three short stories written by Hikage Jokichi, including “House of the Disappeared(1963)”, “Rainbow(1964)” and “A Story About Soul(1984)”, were investigated and analyzed. The three works are all set in Taiwan in the aftermath of World War II. Each of them depicts situation in which a type of incident or a thing repeats itself and happens again and again. Sigmund Freud believed that the repetition of a behavior means the regression of the thoughts and desires repressed by a person in the past. The psychoanalytic concepts proposed by Sigmund Freud, Slavoj Žižek and other experts were adopted in this paper to investigate the repeatedly described incidents in these works and to analyze the mental images of repressed thoughts and desires, revealing their meanings. Based on the investigation findings, the essence of the nostalgia in Hikage’s mind was further analyzed.
