The Taiwan Music Institute (TMI) is positioned as the steward of Taiwanese musical heritage, dedicated to the sustained collection, preservation, and promulgation of Taiwan’s musical cultural legacy. In response to the global digital transition, the Institute has strategically enhanced the application and accessibility of its archives, transitioning from a conventional repository model to a dynamic platform for cultural discourse that effectively bridges the traditional and the modern. Concurrently, TMI has amplified its focus on lived experience of music. Permanent exhibitions are curated to foster audience interaction with the collection, complemented by constant indigenous musical performances. This dual approach is incrementally transforming the Institute into a key locale for international cultural exchange. This article employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating interviews and on-site field observation, to critically analyze the trajectory of collection development and its practical application, thereby illuminating the evolving sociocultural role of the TMI at the intersection of tradition and modernity.
