Working mothers at managerial positions in Hong Kong recorded down their mood fluctuations and types of activities at random intervals. Results indicated that they were not at distress in general. However, tasks juggling within the same role would adversely affect their mood. In addition, respondents' task perceptions were related to mood fluctuations. This study demonstrates that ESM methodology and the corresponding analyses provided a useful approach for studies that examine immediate work experiences and stress. Limitations of the present study and future research directions are discussed.
