本研究目的有二，第一為引介「表露情緒行為簡式測量工具 Five Minutes Speech Sample（FMSS）」有效地使用於中國人，本研究進行第一階段的跨文化適用性檢定，以精神分裂症病患的主要照顧者12位為研究對象，搜集中國人五分鐘演說樣本 Chinese Five Minutes Speech Sample （CFMSS），做內容分析，並經由我國語言學、人類學、心理學、精神科醫師及精神科社會工作等專家的深入討論，UCLA Family Research Project，Dr. M.Goldstein 之跨文化評估（12個案）結果，維持中美之間EE操作性定義之平行概念，決定CFMSS 的分析項目，確認合適國人語意的指標句，澄清評分規則，建構CFMSS手册。第二、應用「表露情緒行為簡式測量工具（CFMSS） 手册」於大樣本，並檢驗EE與家庭負荷、拒絕病患量表之間的同時效度。結果肯定手册中的12個項目都可應用，其操作定義清楚，指標句與評估規則系統經評分者一致性（REC）檢定，達r=.79～.89（批評方面），r=.82～.86（過度介入方面），今後 CFMSS可以繼續接受相關研究之考驗。

This study utilized the newly translated Chinese version of the Manual of Five-Minute Speech Sample (CFMSS) based on the Five-Minute Speech Sample (FMSS). The FMSS instrument was used to collect twelve (12) recorded Speech samples provided by Taiwanese subjects and analyzed by two rater groups: one from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and the other a group of trained Taiwanese psychiatric social workers. The study demonstrated the validity of the instrument for determining High Emotional Expression (HEE) in the context of Chinese and Taiwanese discourse and expression. The first study was followed by analysis of the effectiveness of the Chinese instrument, CFMSS, in a large sample of one hundred and eighteen (118) subjects and the utility of the instrument in concurrent study of Family Caregiver Burden and Family Rejection of the Family Patient. Rater consistency was examined by random error co-efficients: r=.79*.89 for "Criticism"; r=.82*.86 for "Emotional Overinvolvement". A standardization Manual was completed and is applicable for a study of Chinese populations, and could also serve as a reliable instrument with demonstrated cross-cultural validity.
