This research reviews such concepts as "achievement motivation", "fear of success" and "vicarious achievement" etc. in western psychology literature and discusses the position of females in previous discourses on achievement-related issues. The authors try to point out the bias and restrictions of male-dominance in previous literatures. Nine female medical doctors were interviewed to gather information about their life style and achievement in the social context of Taiwan. Family and work are considered to be two sub-fields of the systems. The efforts and limitations of the female professional are discussed to explain what achievement means to them in order to advocate the concept of multi-faceted achievements.
