旗山素有蕉城之稱。 1930-1970 年代,旗山發展出高密度的植蕉產業,某種程度表徵了臺灣做為香蕉王國的美譽。學界不乏對於旗山香蕉之研究,多數強調其在「生產」上的貢獻。但是,商品之所以能被跨域銷售,除了具備優異的生產端,勢必還要有消費和流通的兩大面向,才得以達成商品的經濟效益。有鑑於此,本文把討論焦點放在物流網絡,擬以下幾個面向來討論。
首先是香蕉消費市場的形成與形塑。眾所皆知,日治以後,臺灣香蕉主要外銷市場是日本。自明治維新以來,日本風行西方飲食文化,香蕉作為經典洋食之一,日本人趨之若鶩。隨著日本食蕉需求量增大,造就臺蕉銷日的市場需求,從生產端到消費端有怎樣的現象呢?其次,探討以糖鐵旗尾線為主的「蕉流」網絡。臺灣香蕉商品化之後,究竟如何從產地集結到港埠,再漂洋過海到日本,而物流過程涉及臺灣內陸集結、運送和港口海運的諸多環節,以及如何在生產者和消費市場之間,建置有效且穩定地的商品流通機制。除此之外,「蕉流」另一面向還有品質分類、集運包裝和打印,以及如何達成與海外市場的接洽等,這些涉及商品分級、品質管理和商場接洽的事務,乃是「蕉流」的軟體工程,部份涉及產銷制度,以及支撐起「蕉流」貿易的上下游產業鏈。
Qishan is known as the Banana City. In the 1930s-1970s, Cishan developed a high-density banana planting industry, which symbolized Taiwan's reputation as a banana kingdom. Most studies on Qishan banana emphasize its contribution to "production". However, the reason why commodities can be sold across regions is not only to have excellent production capacity, but also to have a consumer market and logistics network, so as to achieve the economic benefits of commodities. So, this paper focuses on the logistics network and attempts to explore the historical and cultural phenomenon of banana logistics. In this article, the following aspects are discussed.
The first is the formation and shaping of the banana consumer market. As everyone knows, after the Japanese era, the main export market for Taiwan's bananas was Japan. Since the Meiji Restoration, Western food culture has become popular in Japan, and bananas have become one of the classic Western foods, and the Japanese have flocked to them, creating a consumer market for Taiwanese bananas. The second is to explore the transportation network dominated by the Qiwei line of the sugar railway. How did Taiwanese bananas be assembled and transported from the production area to the port, and then across the ocean to Japan? In addition, another aspect of "Banana Flow" is quality classification, consolidation, packaging and printing, and how to achieve contact with overseas markets, which involve product grading, quality management and shopping mall contact. And, part of "Banana Flow" involves the production and marketing system, and the upstream and downstream industrial chains.
