The appearance of writings referring to Japanese Yomeigaku in Vietnam in the first half of the 20th century is a special phenomenon in the context that Vietnam had no tradition of Yangmingism and the Confucian examination system was abolished. By studying these writings and putting the information about Japanese Yomeigaku provided by Vietnamese scholars into the context of contemporary studies about Japanese Yomeigaku and intellectual exchanges in East Asia in the modern period, this article has generalized the perceptions of modern Vietnamese scholars about Japanese Yomeigaku and found out their origin.
