The Tao Te Ching upholds the view that "fortune and misfortune are interdependent," the Book of Changes believes that "the extremes of matter must be reversed, " Confucianism emphasizes that " after a storm comes calm " and Buddhism speaks of "following the cause" and "the impermanence of law." These Chinese cultural views of cyclical repetition, dialectical thinking and duality characteristics have profound implications in the development of indigenous counseling psychology. In particular, the concepts of "following the cause" and "the impermanence of law " offer theoretical transcendence and practical feasibility in the approach to life's pain and trauma. With the belief that "Suffering is Meaningful, Affliction Is Bodhi," counselors with Chinese cultural dialectical thinking can share their life experiences and understanding with clients, discuss the life wisdom of confronting pain and trauma, and making sense of life's difficult and unchangeable value and meaning. Through these concepts, clients can learn to change that which can be changed, accept that which cannot be changed, and discern suffering and trouble as important issues and precious resources for life growth and spiritual enlightenment. Therefore, incorporating these traditional and Chinese mentality based life perspectives into modern professional counseling to cultivate indigenous counseling psychology is a topic worth exploring. For example, using cyclical-repetitive, dialectical and duality characteristics perspectives to incorporate "Suffering is Meaningful, Affliction Is Bodhi" thinking in single-session counseling models is an important counseling strategy to help clients confront difficulties. Furthermore, the duality model for helping profession ethics also uses such perspectives of cyclical-repetitive, dialectical and duality characteristics in its theoretical model for professional ethics. These abovementioned practices can be regarded as concrete attempts to indigenize counseling psychology through the application of Chinese culture.
