本文的目的主要在簡介研究美國總統制運作的幾條主要途徑，包括：法律研究途徑、制度研究途徑、心理研究途徑以及政治權力研究途徑。並提示各途徑論證重心及其優劣之處，以供學術參考。

Over the years, historians and political scientists have taken a number of approaches to the study of American presidency, including the legal, institutional, psychological, and political power approaches. Because each of these approaches has its own strengths and weaknesses, scholars should choose from among them in accordance with the particular questions about the presidency. The purpose of this article is, first, to introduce the essence of those approaches, and secondly, explore the weaknesses of them.
