李卓吾之四書評解見於多種著述中，基本上與陽明學有密切的關係，具有濃厚的個人心得，更帶有強烈的時代意義。其目的及思想特色為何？是本文所欲研究之主題。本文先討論李卓吾評解四書之相關著作及其詮解方法，再分別探討其對「無善無惡」、「無物」、「無己」、「克己復禮」與「以人治人」的解釋，以了解其主要精神所在。由此類詮解可以得知李卓吾將尊重個性自由平等的信念注入儒家經典中，使儒家修身、齊家、治國、平天下的理想，能在去除一己之定見與重視人民生活欲望之新的觀念下獲得實現。整體而言，李卓吾之評解富有社會性，對時代需求有敏銳的觀察和反應，在四書詮釋史上應有相當重要的地位。

Lee Chao-wu's Commentary on the Four Books has been referred to in so many works. As closely related to the doctrines of Wang Yang-ming, it has profound personal insights and a strong meaning of the time. The theme in this study, therefore, is to research the objectives and the features of the Commentary. This study starts to discuss some related works of Lee's and to examine the methodology of interpretation as applied in those works. Afterwards, the study intends to investigate his interpretations on the conceptions of "virtuelessness and vicelessness", "objectlessness", "subjectlessness", "to overcome selfishness and to revive the rituals" and "to rule man by man" respectively so as to grasp its cardinal spirits. Reviewing those interpretations, we can find that Lee Chao-wu inserted the belief of respect of personalities' freedom and equality into the Doctrines of Confucianism and believed that the idea of Confucianism, to wit, cultivating character, arranging a good family, good governing a State and pacifying the world could become realities by excluding personal prejudices and to treasuring people's wants for living. In general, Lee Chao-wu's Commentary is so full of sociability and reveals itself with acute observations and response to the needs of the time. In that connection, the Commentary has won a significant standing in history.
