The form 黽 in the character zao 𫁘╱竈 is taken from the lower part of (a variant form of , i.e. the phonetic component of qiu𥤚╱秋) and acts as a phonetic in zao 𫁘╱竈. The character chao鼂 also uses 黽 as the phonetic component. The form of the character cu鼀 simplifies by omitting the form 目 in the middle.
