About inscribed on the bronze vessel in Shang Dynasty, that was handed down from ancient times, someone decoded it as “Ya Ya(亞疋)”, someone explained it as “Ya You(亞尤)”, and someone doubted it as “Ya Nuo(亞若)”. So far there is not any undoubted conclusion. Many bronze vessels with the same inscription which may provide useful proofs for more accurate explanation have been found in recent years. The author suggests that they ought to be “Ya Jiu(亞九)” being the compositive characters. Perhaps these two characters was the proper noun of “Marquis Jiu (九侯) or Marquis Gui(鬼侯)” recorded in the classics such as Historical Records by Sima Qian. The surname of his ethnic group was Xian(獻), originated from Xuanyuan(軒轅).
