「旅」字先見於甲骨文，復屢見於金文。「旅」字雖然存在著多種的異體， 可是歷來隷定時，意見還是比較統一，重要的分歧僅出現在字義的釋讀上。我 們論述「旅」字中構件「戰車」的象徵意義及其興替。最後，探討「旅」字戰 車形象的淘汰和古漢字的簡化機制。「旅」字當然不會例外。它的簡化過程是分 兩方面進行的:一方面是它的結構成份「車」的簡化，一方面是「旅」字整體 的簡化。

The character lü “旅” is first seen in the Oracle bone inscriptions, and then frequently appears on bronze. Though it exists in several variant forms, there is not much disagreement regarding its identification, but its meaning provokes some controversy. We will discuss the signification and eventual replacement of the chariot image in its composition. Finally, the elimination of the chariot component will be addressed in relation to the simplification mechanism in the Chinese writing system. In the course of the simplification, both the chariot component and the other components of the character lü “旅” were subject to this modification process.
