學界對古文字飾符有不同認識，文章對其進行了梳理，認為飾符是字形中 與字音字義無關並且不以區別他字為主要目的而加的美飾性符號，包括飾旁和 飾筆。從漢字求美的角度看，飾符並非可有可無;有些飾符還兼有區別作用， 因此不必將飾符和別符對立起來。

There are different opinions on the decorative symbols of ancient Chinese characters in academia. The thesis sorts out relevant discussions and points out that decorative symbols, including decorative components and strokes, are symbols with beautification and decoration properties that has nothing to do with the pronunciation or meaning of the characters and is not added for the main purpose of distinguishing from other characters. From the perspective of the pursuit of beauty in Chinese characters, decorative symbols are not optional, and some of them also have distinguishing functions, so it is not necessary to oppose decorative symbols to distinguishing symbols.
