從古文字看，《說文》「回」字下所收古文「囘」與篆文「回」，本為二字， 前者是迴旋之「迴」的本字，後者是為「圍繞」義而造的，其字形當取法於「圍」。 隸變之後，「囘」字幾為「回」字所吞併。戰國竹書和西漢早期墓葬所出古書中 當「圍繞」講的「回」都無須改讀為「圍」。
英文摘要
According to ancient Chinese characters, 囘 (guwen) and 回 (zhuanwen) are two different words included in Shuowenjiezi. 囘 is the original form of a character meaning whirl. 回 is the original form of a character meaning around, while it’s charater form following the form of 圍. There are some 回 meaning whirl in the unearthed documents, which cannot be changed to 圍.
