The Chu Bamboo Slips of the Warring States Collected by the Shanghai Museum (Vol.5) includes an article titled “Ji Geng Zi consults Confucius”. The content is closely related to the Confucian Confucius, therefore is very important. However, because the slips were broken, some meaning of the text has not been explained exactly. This article would like to discuss the definition of “lord” in slip 14. Through the use of the “lord” in the pre-Qin classics, in conjunction with the meaning of preceding and following text of the slips, this article advocates that the “lord” is the common figure in the pre-Qin, who receives guests and provides accommodation when the guests go to his place. This action is also called “lord”.
