閩東區泰順三魁方言中 [ɵy] 韻至少有六個來源:*oe、*yoe、*iɔʔ、*uɔ、*uɔʔ、*uɔi。
There are at least six proto finals which become the final [ɵy] in the Eastern Min Sānkuí dialect of Tàishùn County, namely *oe, *yoe, *iɔʔ, *uɔ, *uɔʔ, and *uɔi. Four main historical phonological backgrounds in combination brought about this rarely attested large-scale merger in Eastern Min, namely (1) the palatalization of the medial *uɔ/uɔʔ, conditioned by the initial *t group and *tʃ group, (2) the change of the medial + lower-mid vowel into a single upper-mid vowel, (3) the diphthongization of upper-mid vowels, and (4) the lengthening of the checked syllables with coda *ʔ. The final [əy] of the neighboring Sìxī dialect and the final [yəu] of the neighboring Xiǎocūn dialect are also formed through similar phonological development.
