Purpose: The purpose of this study was designed a reverse L pad at inside lining of a novel ankle brace with an outside elastic belt to fibular head fixed and to determine the effect of a novel ankle brace on static and dynamic balance and pain while movements. Methods: Twenty- four amateur collegiate athletes (12 Males and 12 female) were recruited to participate this study and divided into control and brace group. The measured outcomes were static and dynamic balance and pain condition while movements. The independed t test was used to analyze the values of the measured outcomes variables between the control and brace group firstly. Then, the paired-t test was used to analyze the values of the measured outcomes variables between the with-wearing and without wearing for brace group secondly. Results: The results was found that the sway area in open eye condition of the static balance with wearing a novel ankle brace significantly more wide than without wearing brace, but the sway path length have no significantly changed. Also, there were showed the decreased in the dynamic balance error with wearing a novel ankle brace of the brace groups than without wearing brace. The results indicated that the total dynamic balance scores decreased when wearing a novel ankle brace of the brace groups. The pain scale while movements had no significantly difference between wearing or non-wearing a novel brace in brace group. Conclusions: Wearing a novel ankle brace can enhance the dynamic balance for athletes with ankles sprain history. However, it cannot alter the static balance and pain condition while dynamic movements.
