江亢虎於 1934 年 8 月來臺，並出版了《臺游追記》一書。江氏歷游西方各國， 他觀看臺灣的方式及追記所述之內容，大抵接近晚清以來的歐美游記內容，如對 學校、博物館、圖書館、體操、婦學、鐵道交通設施等的紀錄。在臺期間他對臺 灣的文化及婦女、僑校教育特別留意關心，也批判了日本在臺的若干政策，本文 並討論此書的書寫形式及文獻意義，及江氏來臺所引發的一些問題：其一，因其 提倡東洋文明，反對白話文，臺灣人士質疑他的遊臺動機，張深切、楊逵都曾撰 文抨擊其言論。其二，楊逵兩篇文章所述與演講者江亢虎事後追記的出入，及楊 逵〈江博士講演評──白話文と文言文に就いて〉一文是否正式發表？對前人之 說予以訂正。其三，江亢虎之作多次出現在《風月報》、《南方》，此現象與日華親 善的關係如何？其四，接待他的臺灣名人楊肇嘉先生回憶錄何以片言隻字未曾提 及江氏來臺一事？最後，依據各檔案史料總論其人其作。

Kang-Hu Jiang came to Taiwan in August 1934 and published the book Travelling Record of Taiwan. Because he had been in many western countries, the way he observed the situation in Taiwan is similar to other intellectual traveling records written by others at that time, focusing mainly on the educational institutions, museums, libraries, physical education, the education of women and infrastructure like railroads etc. Travelling Record of Taiwan is of no exception in this aspect. During his stay, he was especially concerned with the education of the female and the culture of Taiwan. He also criticized several policies of the government of Japan. This article, therefore, discusses the way this book was written and points out the literature significance of it. Among others, four issues caused by Jiang’s active presence in Taiwan will be examined. First of all, because of his promotion of Japanese civilization and objection to vernacular Chinese, many intellectuals in Taiwan suspected his intention. Among them, Shenqie Zhang and Kui Yang wrote some articles to criticize his views. These will be reviewed. In the second place, there are differences between Kui Yang’s articles and Kang-Hu Jiang’s later record about his own speech. Was Yang Kui’s article“Review on Professor Jiang's Speech: about vernacular and classic Chinese”really published? This article will revise the views in the literature of research on this issue. Thirdly, Kang-Hu Jiang’s articles occurred several times in 風月報 and 南方. Was this related to the fact that the relationship between Japan and Taiwan was getting closer? Finally, the Taiwanese celebrity Zhao-Jia Yang received Kang Jiang Hu at the latter’s arrival. Why there is no mention of Kang-Hu Jiang in Zhao-Jia Yang’s memoir? After these issues are explicated, a general overview on Jiang and his works will be given in the end, based on all the relevant historical data.
