本文論述日本治臺期間在臺北城的改造，因之所銘刻的殖民現代性。焦點集中在兩部份，一是市區改正，一是新興建築。殖民政府在臺北城有那些興築？城市的本身如何變成功能充分的教育形式？臺灣人又如何肆應這種被教化？呈現怎樣的接受、怎樣抗拒？人們如何因此改變他們的生活？它的陷溺與自覺，如何鐫刻於臺北地理空間以及其他相關的書寫？
英文摘要
This article explores how the Japanese colonial government engaged in city planning, changing Taipei's infrastructure by designing and constructing roads and buildings. Thus the city became a functional form of education. How did Taiwanese respond to this? Mere acceptance, or was there any form of resistance? How did this activity change people’s lives? How has it left tracks in the city or in literature?
