《左傳．僖公二十八年》：「城濮之戰，晉中軍風於澤，亡大旆之左旃，祁暪奸命，司馬殺之。」本人以為此事頗有蹊蹺，蓋晉中軍何以風於澤，而亡左旃一事又與祁暪何干？故擬自旗鼓、御者、晉中軍風於澤、祁暪之世系身分等方面論述之，以見晉中軍風於澤一事頗有蹊蹺，而祁暪之被殺，適見其為代罪羔羊而已。

In the 28th year of Duke His, Tsou chuan records: “At the War of Ch’eng-p’u, Chin’s central forces lost their cattle, horses and the left flag. Because Ch’i Man violated the regulations, he was sentenced to death by the martial officer.” I consider this is not the whole picture of the incident based on the reason that Ch’i Man had nothing to do with this incident. Therefore, I discuss the relation of the flag, the drum, the loss of cattle and horses, and the family tree of Ch’i Man in this article to disclose that Ch’i Man was only a scapegoat in this incident.
