本文在五四跨歐亞情感啟蒙的延展中,討論木心(1927-2011)一案。木心在文革後飛散紐約所展開的藝文傳奇,既是民國美育的迴響,亦蘊含變奏。文章首先證成木心美的人生觀,其次追溯其觀念淵源,繼而結合伊卡洛斯飛與墜的精神象徵,呈現其對五四情感啟蒙主流之尼采式變奏:其「美的人生」冷卻啓蒙熱情,轉為生命的形上辯護,蘊含悲劇精神,內含伊卡洛斯飛翔軌跡的形上轉移,貫徹「宇宙觀決定人生觀」的認識論。結語指出,木心對「美的人生」的追求與思辨,與其「伊卡洛斯」浪漫之旅融為一體,這進一步揭示了他與五四的脈絡關聯,提示應加強五四的跨領域研究,特别是浪漫主義研究的視角更新。
n the extension of the May Fourth Trans-Eurasian emotional Enlightenment, this paper discusses the case of Mu Xin. The Mu Xin phenomenon unfolded in New York after the Cultural Revolution echoed with the Republican aesthetic education, yet with distinct variations. The article first proves Mu Xin’s aesthetic outlook on life, secondly traces its conceptual origin, and then, in connection of his romantic psyche of Icarian flight and fall, to present his post-May Fourthian developments: his aesthetic life cools down the enthusiasm of enlightenment and turns into a Nietzschean defense of life, exhibiting a tragic spirit backed up by his pessimistic cosmology. The conclusion points out that Mu Xin’s pursuit and speculation on “aesthetic life”, integrated with his Icarian journey, further reveals his intellectual debts to the May Fourth, suggesting the necessity of interdisciplinary research of May Fourth, especially on the topic of romanticism.
