Purpose: This study was to explore the effect of goal setting intervention on badminton smash performance for elementary school badminton players. Method: Four elementary school badminton players in the fourth-grade average age of 10.33 (SD = 0.42) years old as the research subjects, the single case design for A-B-C was used for the present study. This experiment had a total of 12 weeks which the basis phase, the intervention phase and the withdrawal phase were four weeks each. All subjects were required to test their smash performance twice a week. During the intervention phase, they were required 2.50% to improve, and complete the goal setting log checklist after each test to verify the extent of goal setting involvement. The obtained data were analyzed by visual analysis and C-statistics to examine the effect of goal setting intervention on badminton smash performance. Result: The goal setting intervention could effectively improve the smash performance of the all subjects. Furthermore, there were three participants increase steadily on smash performance during the withdrawal phase. Conclusion: The study found that eight times of goal setting interventions in four weeks can effectively improve thesmash performance for the fourth-grade of primary school badminton players and can also maintain an optimal performance effect after the goal setting was removed.
