On January 21, 1979, the Taiwan Garrison Command arrested the leader of outside the KMT party, Yu, Deng-Fa, and his son Yu, RuIyan on suspicion of involvement in the Wu, Tai-An rebellion case. Subsequently, the military court sentenced Yu, Deng-Fa to eight years' imprisonment for the charges of “failing to report knowledge of rebels" and "propagating for the rebels," while Yu, Rui-Yan was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for "knowing the rebels but not reporting." Following the arrest of the Yu father and son, their family members and the figures of outside the KMT party initiated rescue efforts through various means. Firstly, they utilized rallies, associations, and supportive speech that verged on the illegal to garner public attention. Secondly, they employed more "legitimate" methods within the system, including courtroom attack and defense, parliamentary inquiries and proposals, as well as political communication. Thirdly, they sought assistance from overseas forces in the hope of influencing the authorities concerned. Through persistent rescue efforts, Yu, DengFa was finally granted medical parole in February of the following year. Throughout the process of political rescue, outside the KMT party not only worked to rescue the Yu father and son but also turned the rescue itself into an integral part of the democratic movement outside the KMT party. The interconnection between political rescue and democratic movement stands out as the primary characteristic of this event. Furthermore, it is worth noting that after being granted medical parole, Yu, Deng-Fa continued to participate in democratic movements despite warnings from the authorities concerned that he could be returned to prison. He not only received support from figures of outside the KMT party but also actively "rescued" ( supported) the democratic movement outside the KMT party, demonstrating a "twoway rescue" that holds significance in the history of Taiwan's democratic development.
