《南投市志》於2002年出版，距今已逾20年，2021年國立暨南國際大學承接南投市公所委託的《續修南投市志》編纂計畫，筆者有幸擔任〈沿革篇〉、〈社會篇〉的撰稿人，希望編纂成果能夠對於《南投市志》既具有延續編纂的目的，也兼有補充前志不足的功能。本次續修的篇章架構與前志相較，變化不小。〈沿革篇〉為前志所無，編纂時儘量以不過多重覆前志內容為原則，重點呈現重要史事、行政區劃沿革及各里特色。〈社會篇〉的部份，雖然篇名相同，但內容迥異，主要是因應《續修南投市志》11篇的架構所做的調整。這次的續修，不僅篇章架構有異，史料運用也有所差異。〈沿革篇〉引用大量的古文書，也善用《臺灣總督府公文類纂》相關檔案。〈社會篇〉參考歷屆市民代表會議事錄的工作報告呈現社會救助與社會福利業務成果，參考南投縣政府社會處的人民團體資料，對於南投市各種人民團體分類表列呈現。兩篇內容也運用大量田野訪問資料，呈現各里的特色、景點，以及社區發展協會的運作概況。筆者曾多次參與地方志的編纂工作，也曾撰文分享地方志的編纂經驗。對於參與本次續修的編纂過程所運用的史料；以及一些編纂經歷皆有些許個人看法。本文是筆者參與本次編纂計畫，運用過去的編纂經驗，加上本次編纂經歷，所撰寫的編纂經驗分享，期與地方志編纂同好交流、學習。

The Nantou City Chronicle has existed over 20 years since its publication in 2002. In 2021, the National Chi Nan University undertook the compilation project of the ongoing Revision of Nantou City Chronicle, commissioned by the Nantou City Government. The author had the privilege of contributing to two chapters: "Historical Development" and "Social Affairs.” The aim was not only to continue the work of the previous Nantou City Chronicle but also to address gaps present in the earlier edition. The structure of this revision differed significantly from the previous edition. The chapter "Historical Development," absent in the previous edition, was compiled with a focus on avoiding unnecessary repetition of the content covered in the previous edition. It focused on significant historical events, evolution of administrative districts, and characteristics of local neighborhoods. Concerning the chapter "Social Affairs,” it shared a similar title with that of the previous edition but differed greatly in terms of content. This adjustment was made to align with the structure of the other 11 chapters of ongoing Revision of Nantou City Chronicle. This revision not only altered the chapter structure but also employed historical materials in a different manner. The chapter "Historical Development" was compiled with extensive reference to ancient documents and the relevant files from the Compilation of Documents from the office of the Taiwan Governor-General. The chapter "Social Affairs" was compiled based on the work reports regarding social aids and welfare services, which were documented in the minutes of civic representative meetings. Furthermore, by referencing the data from the social affairs department of the Nantou County Government, this chapter categorized and listed people's organizations in Nantou City. Both chapters extensively utilized field interview data to present the features and attractions of various neighborhoods, as well as an overview of the operations of community development associations over time. Having participated in various local chronicle compilation projects and shared experiences in this field, the author offered personal perspectives on the historical materials used in the revision process and also on the past compilation experiences. This article aims to share some insight into the compilation process and to exchange the author's experiences with fellow researchers interested in compiling local chronicles.
