臺灣的飲食模式在戰後有大幅的改變，肉類習慣大幅提升，加上禽畜豢養技術提升，畜牧業成為戰後重要的產業。清至日治時期畜產的糧食來源多為家庭廚餘，而當畜牧成為企業養殖後，大量飼料供應成為必需品，富含多元營養、方便使用的混合飼料需求量高，國內的飼料工業也因應而起，主要分布在西南部靠近生產家畜、家禽區。有的飼料工業兼營畜產養殖、品種研發、肉品加工等事業，是農工同體的運作模式。其中，不乏國際知名農糧企業。為了解決雜糧的生產、進口與流通問題，雜糧發展基金會應運而生。動物飼料主要來源來自雜糧，稻米與雜糧競爭、品種技術太晚投入研發、氣候環境上臺灣不適雜糧生產、政府的提高收購政策起不了作用等原因，皆使飼料作物依賴國外進口，但同時也被國際糧價牽動影響。

The dietary habit changed drastically after the world war II in Taiwan, and meat consumption increased significantly. Coupled with the improvement of livestock breeding technology, animal husbandry became an important industry. Most of the food sources for animals were household kitchen waste from the Qing Dynasty to the Japanese colonial period. When the animal husbandry transformed into enterprise, a large amount of feed supply became an urgent matter, and the domestic feed industry also emerged accordingly, and the demand for mixed feed rich in multiple nutrients and convenient use was demanded, mainly distributed in the southwest. Some feed industries are concurrently engaged in livestock breeding, breed research and development, meat processing and other businesses, which is the mode of operation of the same body of agriculture and industry. And there are many internationally renowned agricultural and grain enterprises. In order to solve the problems of the production, import and distribution of miscellaneous grains, the Miscellaneous Grains Development Foundation was established. The main source of animal feed comes from miscellaneous grains. The feed crops of Taiwan relied on foreign imports because of the competition between rice and miscellaneous grains, too late to put into variety technology research, climate and environment were not suitable for miscellaneous grain production, and the government's policy of increasing purchases had no effect. Finally, feed supply affected by international grain prices.
