This paper uses moral crises in contemporary enterprises as a case study to examine the idea of "the wandering of ethics" which is the uncertainty towards the Confucian idea of moral consciousness. Using the concept of guo in Confucianism as an example, the paper first examines the conception of the idea and its correction in the Analects, as well as the ledger system for recording misdeeds in the Confucian scholar Liu Zongzhou's Manual for Man (Ren pu). The article proceeds to reflect upon how contemporary enterprises deal with guo and how that corresponds with Confucian ideas. The paper concludes by rethinking the necessity and significance of moral consciousness advocated by Confucianism.
