通常一般非專業的網站設計者，往往最缺乏的就是有關視覺設計方面的專業知識與經驗。市面上有許多書籍或文章提供關於網站視覺設計應注意的準則，這些準則字面上雖容易被了解，但往往與實際操作有落差，所以大都不被非專業設計者所熟悉。因此，若有一套完善的評量方法，能夠正確指出製作人員在該網站的視覺設計缺失，則將能提升網站之視覺美國演品質形象。由於視覺設計評量是主觀的，因此本研究不採用單一（或少數特定）專家學者所提出之網站視覺設計原則作為評量指標，而是利用我們過去對於一些優質網站所作的視覺特徵量化分析結果，進行網站視覺之評量。評量的方法分為三個步驟，首先將待評量的網站進行特徵值的計算，接著以所選優質網站的視覺特徵建議值與待評量網站的網頁特徵值進行比較，與建議值不符之特徵，將會被建議作修改。為了測試依建議值作修改後之網頁是否有效提升視覺效果，我們請了數位有網站設計等相關經驗者來評比修改前後的網頁，結果顯示本研究所提方法有助於改善網站視覺效果。
Most non-professional designers lack the expertise and experience of visual design. Many books or articles introduce the website design guidelines, like "remain consistent" and "provide clear visual messages." The literal meanings of the guidelines are easy to understand, but there is a gap between the understanding and the actual implementation of the guidelines. Therefore these guidelines are generally not easily followed by a non-professional designer. If there is a website assessment method which can clearly indicate the defect of the site’s visual design, the non-professional designer can enhance the visual quality of the site. Therefore, this study aims to develop an effective assessment method of website visual design. The assessment of visual design is very subjective, so we do not use the guidelines which are proposed by several experts or scholars as the indicator. We use the quantitative analysis results of high-quality sites to evaluate the visual design of a site. A non-professional designer can increase the site’s visual beauty by following the suggestions of the assessment.
