《續漢書‧郡國志》載張掖屬國領城:「候官左騎千人司馬官千人官」,並非是如中華書局點校本所認為的五城:「候官、左騎、千人、司馬官、千人官」。從官職名稱來看,應該是四城:「候官、左騎千人、司馬官、千人官」,張掖屬國都尉所在的屬國城未列。

In the “Treatise on Administrative Geography” of Xuhan Shu, it marks the citiesunder the jurisdiction of Zhangye by listing a number of terms of official titles. Examining the usage of these terms in the Xuhan Shu and other historical records as well as in the bamboo and wooden slips excavated from Han tombs, I offer different explanations and punctuation for these terms from the previous ones in the Zhonghua shuju’s edition of Xuhan shu. I suggest that Zhangye in the late Han period actually administered four cities instead of five according to my new explanation and punctuation of these terms.
