Traditionally, the western mass media dominate international information flows and control international discourse power. To reverse the trend, China, under the leadership of Xi Jinping, has promoted internationalization of its television media with China Central Television as a spearhead for gaining influence in the international TV market. In juxtaposition with the nightly news from NBC, we could find that the quality of the news coverage and the distribution of the themes in the news made by CCTV-America have already reached the same level of standard. Notwithstanding, it is uncertain if CCTVAmerica can expand and develop further in American society with its democracy and pluralism.
