基督宗教對臺灣民眾而言，是一新傳入的外來宗教，其教義 與民間的宗教信仰有相當的歧異。臺灣開港後，有天主教的道明會 （Dominican）和基督新教的長老會（Presbyterian）傳入。日治時期其 他基督教派紛紛傳入，與臺灣民眾關係較密切的則為真耶穌教會和聖教 會。 清末以來道明會與長老會，常為競爭信徒而互相批評。日治後新傳 入的真耶穌教會，對既存的教派產生巨大的衝擊。真耶穌教會循長老教 會的系統發展，使得原本屬長老教會的信徒與禮拜堂轉向真耶穌教會， 引發長老教會的惶恐。臺灣聖教會與長老會關係較為密切，但也吸引了 相當多的長老會信徒加入。 基督宗教各教派在臺灣傳教，往往出現互相「牽羊」的現象。互相 「牽羊」的原因在於早期信徒對教義認識有限，難以分辨各教派間教義 的異同；加上羊群有限，各教派要建立教會，從其他教派的信徒中去吸 收最為便捷。信徒的競爭，造成各教派之間關係緊張，相互批評，甚至 引發激烈的衝突。

Christianity is an incoming foreign religion for the public in Taiwan, which doctrines are found with considerable discrepancies from the civil religion and beliefs.The Dominican of Catholics and the Presbyterian of the New Christianity were introduced upon the ports opening of Taiwan.The other Christian denominations were also introduced to Taiwan during the Japanese Ruling Period,among which the True Jesus Church and the Holy Church maintained a closer relationship with the Taiwan public. The Dominican and the Presbyterian have long and frequently criticized each other in competition of believers since the end of Qing Dynasty.The incoming True Jesus Church after the Japanese Ruling Period has brought enormous impact to the pre-existing denominations.The True Jesus Church has developed following the system of the Presbyterian, which drew the believers previously attributing to the Presbyterian and the Chapel to turn to the True Jesus Church, triggering the panic among Presbyterian Church. Although the Holy Church in Taiwan maintained a closer relationship with the Presbyterian Church,it also drew considerable number of Presbyterian believers to join the church. It is often found that the various denomination of Christianity is preaching in Taiwan with“pulling sheep”from each other.Such manner of “pulling sheep”started from the limited knowledge on doctrines of early believers,who could not distinguish the differences and similarities among all denominations.Moreover, the limited number of sheep was aggravating to the situation of denominations attracting believers from other denominations for convenience, in order to found the church. Such behavior also led to the intense relationship between the denominations,criticism of each other and even triggering intense conflicts.
