肇發於日治時期臺灣北部基督長老教會內部，史稱「新人運動」的 改革運動，係指史稱「新派」的人物，亦即當時接受新式教育，多具有 留學日本背景的年輕教會菁英，針對當時馬偕後裔和舊派人物的勢力， 及其主持北部教會所產生的弊端與舊式觀念提出改革主張的革新運動。 這項歷史事件雖已有學位論文進行相關討論，但過去限於此運動 的主要刊物文件尚未出土，因此難有全面性的觀照。本文聚焦於「新人 運動」的主要成員陳清忠（1895-1954）及其創刊的《芥菜子》發行狀 況，以及在《芥菜子》發表作品，進而成為「新人運動」成員的北部教 會知識分子，並且發掘出以這群教會菁英所發行的《傳道師會會誌》， 亦即「新人運動」期間最重要的代表刊物，再探「新人運動」的內涵和 所處當時代的歷史意義。本論文不擬在神學與教會運作方面深究，主要 針對新舊兩派對於時代潮流、新舊思想型態與世界情勢關注、因應的態 度，觀察這群知識分子的文化活動與社會參與。

The ‘New-People Movement’that happened in the Japanese colonial period was led by those church elite who accepted the new-styled education, on the other hand,they had the Japanese cultivated background.They brought their ideas to innovate the old-fashioned concept and the defect of the North Taiwan Presbyterian Church that dominated by Mackay’s son and the Old-People. Although there was some research in the ‘New-People Movement’, therefore,it’s hard for us to have the full-scale observation of the movement because the important and defining documents haven’t found yet to give us some clue to know more.The goal of the essay focuses on the main member of the movement,Chen,Ching-Jung(陳清忠),and the journal called Kòa-ChhàiChí which means mustard seed in Taiwanese that was founded and edited by him.Meanwhile,I tried to extend to discuss the others that published their articles on the journal column and became the members of the movement mentioned above.They also launched the other important publication, The Missionary’s Periodical,to push the movement then.The essay aims to not only explore the content and its historical meanings but to reify the different attitudes to regard the world situation,the culture activities and the social attendance between the ‘New People’ and the ‘Old People’.
