本文旨在探討清代到日治時期臺灣基督長老教會信徒如何依循其 神學傳統及改宗歷程，逐漸形成對民間信仰與祖先崇拜等「異教」的觀 點。文中探討基督徒如何因應不同對象而改變態度，並分析外籍、本地 人士在宣講重點之差異。他們的講道有些對民間宗教信仰抱持較包容理 解的心態，有些較屬批評性言論。同時，本文透過基督教在臺的傳教經 驗，析論本地人的宗教心理及外來宗教本土化時的傳播轉換機制。最 後，則是希冀藉著歷史的考察，呈現可資反省的現代關懷。

This article focuses on Christians of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan and how they formed their idea of“heathenism”toward popular religion and ancestor worshipping from their theological tradition and the process of conversion in the periods of Qing-dynasty and Japanese colonization.We explore how their attitudes changed toward different people,and analyze the different contents of preaching between missionaries and local believers.We find that some of them preached with mercy and others with critical remarks. Meanwhile,we discuss native inhabitants’psychology of religion,and the mechanic of communication and transformation for the foreign religion from the experience of evangelization in Taiwan. Finally,we reflect the significance of self-examination in our contemporary investigation of history.
