創傷、知識與回憶:探921地震教育園區之展示建構與詮釋

台灣社會在1999年歷經921地震的巨大災變後,旋即展開設立博物 館的規劃,並於2001年在台中霧峰光復國中遺址設立國立921地震教育 園區,該園區除保存災難遺址,並積極扮演教育、紀念以及撫慰社會的 重要角色。是怎樣的社會背景促使博物館的設立,而921地震園區又是 如何透過展覽來傳遞地震相關知識並詮釋社會集體創傷記憶?對觀眾而 言,尤其是來自災區並擔任志工的這群人,他們又是如何透過展示來詮 釋園區所提供的地震知識與回憶?這些都是本文所要探討的議題。 921地震園區以地球科學及防災知識為展覽主軸及起點,企圖以科 學走出悲情;接著應用新聞媒體的手法,回溯921地震災情與救援的歷 史集體記憶,並以公部門及民間團體如何積極協助重建家園而結束,企 圖引導觀眾從黑暗到光明。從志工訪談資料得知,科學教育的展示內容 可以協助志工瞭解地震發生的原因及防災措施,賦予創傷事件可管理性 與可理解性,而「影像館」的展覽則引領他們將悲傷的回憶昇華轉化為 利他的力量,並從中建構出憐憫、感動及團結合作等意義。
英文摘要
On September 21,1999,the central part of Taiwan was struck by an earthquake which was one of the worst natural disasters of the past century in Taiwan. In the wake of the 921 disaster,the government decided to build a museum to preserve some of the phenomena of the earthquake on the Kwangfu Junior High School. The 921 Earthquake Education Park not only retains the original sites as a record of the damage wrought by the earthquake,but also adds educational facilities designed to inform and console the public. What was the social context that made the establishment of the museum possible? What messages does the exhibition interpret the disaster? How does the audience,especially the volunteers from the earthquake area,learn and interpret in the museums? These are the research questions that the paper aims to explore. The narrative of the exhibition of the 921 Earthquake Education Park starts from the knowledge of science,which is followed by recollection of the historical incidents,rescues and reconstructions in order to lead the audience from the traumatic darkness to the bright future. The analysis of interview data shows that the exhibition helps the volunteers to understand the causes of earthquake and disaster prevention measures, which make the disaster manageable and comprehensible.The recollections triggered by the exhibits also assist them to transform the trauma into strengths to support and facilitate others to understand the disaster.
