本文主要討論陳中和自年少，即於打狗（高雄）苓雅寮庄著名的 鉅商陳福謙所創設的順和行，學習貿易；同治9年（1870年），老板陳 福謙設「順和棧」。同年（1870年）陳中和赴橫濱經營砂糖商。因善於 將交易所得，靈活運用貨款，於香港採購石油、雜貨、鴉片等，獲利甚 豐，遂為陳福謙所重用。陳福謙與陳中和（24歲）且協議，在日本橫濱 設立店舖－「橫濱順和棧」，並以陳中和為營業主任。 光緒8年（明治15年，1882年），老板陳福謙（1834–1882年）不幸 逝世，享年49歲；陳中和乃返打狗，以周端立為橫濱「順和棧」主任； 陳中和則出任打狗（高雄）總辦砂糖商順和號，配糖往橫濱。光緒13年 （1887年），由陳福謙家屬等6家，出資10股，與陳中和1家出資1股， 合創「和興公司」，公舉陳中和為「正當事」；橫濱順和棧成為「和興 公司」所屬的支店之一。明治36年（1903年），以陳中和與陳文遠等6 人為發起人，創設「新興製糖株式會社」，陳文遠一方面為股東，另方 面亦任監察役的職位。 明治36年（1903年）、37年（1904年），陳文遠兩次赴橫濱，設法 進行橫濱「順和棧」繼承登記手續。但因陳文遠因缺乏其地券證，於辦 理各種手續之中，始為周端立查覺，乃急電陳中和，另委託律師向神奈 川縣廳提出，於對之前陳文遠的申請」做不許可之申請。周端立且向橫 濱地方法院申請假處分。陳文遠的登記手續，終告失敗。永代借地權依 然為「順和棧」所有。明治37年（1904年），由陳中和、周端立具名， 委請律師清水市太郎任代理人，向臺灣臺南縣川田鳳山廳長照會申請， 提議本件雙方宜庭外和解。 由於《臺灣總督府公文類纂》中，新文件的出土，才得以瞭解高雄 陳福謙後代家族與陳中和之間，曾就「橫濱順和棧」產權的轉承，發生 令人值得探討的問題。

Chen Fure-chian（陳福謙）was a successful merchant and a tycoon at Ling-a-liao（苓雅寮）, Takau（打狗，高雄）during the late Ch'ing （清）Dynasty. He founded the Shun-ho Firm（順和行）for sugar business. he gained control over much of Takau’s sugar, with the sugar exported mostly to Japan. He asked one of his staffs, Chen Chung-ho（陳中和）to Japan to organize the sugar exporting business. In 1876, Chen Fure-chian and Chen Chung-ho together created a branch company in Yokohama, Japan, with Chen Chung-ho as the manager of the branch. Chen Fure-chian passed away in 1882. Chen Chung-ho returned to Takau and assumed the post of manger of the Shun-ho Firm . Jou Duan-lih （周端立）took over the Shun-ho Firm of Yokohama as the manager. Chen Fure-chian’s second son, Chen Wen-yeuan（陳文遠）, his relatives, and Chen Chung-ho established the Ho-sing Company（和興公 司）to organize the sugar business. Shareholders elected Chen Chung-ho to be the manager, the Shun-ho Firm company of Yokohama merged with the branch of Ho Sing Company. Japan established Taiwan's first modern refinery at Qiaozitou（橋仔 頭） in 1902. Chen Chung-ho established the Sin-sing Sugar Company（新 興製糖株式會社）at Daliao（大寮）, Fengshan （鳳山）, in 1903, which is the first modern sugar refinery established by a Taiwanese person. Chen Wen-yeuan was one of the shareholders. In 1903 and 1904, Chen Wen-yeuan twice tried to arrange the inheritance registration of the Shun-ho Firm company of Yokohama. As Chen Wenyeuan did not have the certificate of land ownership, he couldn’t inherit to the property of that company at once . Jou Duan-lih found something wrong in the procedures of inheritance registration, and asked the district court of Yokohama for injunction against the application. In the end, Chen Wen-yeuan failed to inherit to the property. Chen Chung-ho and Jou Duan-lih asked a lawyer to propose on out-ofcourt Settlement. Based on the documents of Taiwan Sōtokufu（臺灣總督府） had been maintained and digitalized, this article is try to employ the documents to redefine the relationships between the two Chens’ Families.
