區域地名在形成及演變的過程中，不只充滿各種民俗植物學、生 態學、及地質地景的認知意象，其間並凝聚著深厚的人群生活的歷史過 程。區域地名之解釋，成為人類、地理、歷史學者的重要議題。 本文將地名作為一個區域研究的重要線索。預期透過地名屬性的量 化分析，解讀北投地區地名與環境、產業、族群及地域發展之關係。並 透過行政地名空間的變化與地名的變遷，了解國家地方治理的態度與區 域發展的空間特性。 研究結果顯示：1、北投地區的地名中，以自然環境類的數量最 多，自然環境類地名的特徵多以起伏地形為主，符合本區以火山地形構 成的地形特徵及地處河川中上游地帶，河流下切力量大，所造成地切割 與起伏地形；至於北投地區的人文環境類地名事實上反應區域居民日常 生活的方式與維生產業的變動，其中尤以硫磺、溫泉與藍靛產業所產 生的顯著地景，成為本區頗具特色的地名。2、北投地區行政空間的變 化，自日治時代的6個大字區，至今則高達42個里，顯現出行政區空間 的分化，然行政區空間的分化卻有著明顯的區域差異，不但牽涉到國家 地方治理的機制，事實上也反應區域發展的空間變化。

In the formation and evolution process of geographical name, it is not only full of different kinds of folk botany, ecology, and geological landscape cognitive imagery, but also embodies the profound historical process of the crowd’s life. The interpretation of regional names has become important issues to anthropology geography, history scholars. This article regards geographical names as an important clue for regional study. We expect through the quantitative analysis in attribute features of geographical name to realize the relationships between regional names and the environment, industry, ethnic groups in Peitou area. And through the understanding the change of administrative space and geographical names, we aim to clarify the attitude of local governing instate and the space characteristics of regional development. The results are as follows： 1. At all collected place-names in Peitou area, with the natural environment category of the largest number .The characteristics of natural environment place-name are mainly according to the undulating terrain. Those are matched with the feature of volcanic terrain and the location in the upper reaches of rivers which results in cutting and rolling topography under the shear strength of large rivers. The main categories of the humanities facilities are to reflect the regional dimension of everyday life and the industry of local residents. The prominent landscape from which the sulfur, hot springs and indigo industries resulted becomes a characteristic of geographical names for this area. 2.The Peitou administrative space transformed from 6“Da Zih”region in Japanese colonial period into 42”Li”region at present .However, the differentiation of administration space is not the average but with clear regional differences. It not only involves the national governance mechanisms for local areas, in fact also reflects changes in regional development.
