英文摘要
Eight famous trade associations of Lukang exemplified the heydays of Lukang during the Qing Dynasty. Among the eight, the Chun Trade Association and the Hsia Trade Association were the most prominent. The Qing–Chang Hang was the most powerful under the Hsia Trade Association during the Dau–Kuang period of the Qing Dynasty, and Yilou was the main shop of the Qing–Chang Hang, which now is a famous historical site in Lukang. According to legend, the birth of the Qing–Chang was associated with a pirate named Chien Tasi. Moreover, the fact that the ornate window of Yilou and its star fruit tree were the backdrop of an Yi girl legend gives Yilou a sense of mystery, which attracts many tourists. Yilou had not been well–maintained for more than 20 years, until 2004, when a Lukang native, Chun–Te Lee, the founder of Jiunn–Meei Foods, purchased it for restoration. This article explores the rebirth of Yilou, including the restoration process, discusses the history of the Qing–Chang Hang, and examines the authenticity of the legends associated with Yilou. The implications for Yilou’s future are also included
