位於高雄湖內區的太爺，是由隨鄭成功來臺的蘇伍（1656–1705）所 開墾，繁衍至今約十二、三代。乾隆43年（1778）後，經蘇伍孫子蘇足 （1727–1800），與其五個兒子努力墾殖，建造一座占地約一千多坪的四 合院古厝，二進之間為大埕，全舖上紅磚，中有水井一口，供鄉人洗濯飲 用。蘇足孫子蘇應元為秀才，在地方極有名聲。光緒21年（1895），馬關條 約簽訂後，臺灣割讓日本，10月10日日本陸軍中將乃木希典將軍率兵從枋寮 登陸，20日預計要砲轟臺南前，曾短暫駐紮此古厝中，古厝村民部份在村 外與日軍對抗，古厝中之婦孺則默默承受壓力。蘇應元之孫蘇文治（1882– 1946），畢業於日治時代的國語學校，大正10年（1921），奉臺灣總督府令 成為第一屆湖內庄長，他特意發展村民教育，改善風俗，繁榮經濟。蘇氏古 厝正見證臺灣自清初以來一個家族的發展史跡。

Tai Ye, which is located in Hu Nei district of Kaohsiung, was under the reclamation of Su Wu(1656–1705) who came along with Zheng Chenggong to Taiwan. Until now, it has developed to the twelfth and thirteenth generation. In 1778, Su Wu’s grandson Su Zu and his five sons reclaimed the area of Tai Ye and built a siheyuan, which was a historical type of residence with four sections. Between the two sections was a big courtyard, which was covered with red bricks. There was also a well in the middle of the courtyard, which was used to offer people water for drinking and showering. Su Wu’s grandson Su Yingyuan, a scholar who passed the county level imperial exam, was famous then. After the Treaty of Shimonoseki in 1895, Taiwan was ceded to Japan. On October 10th,, Count Nogi Maresuke landed in Fang Liao. Before his attack to Tainan on the 20th, Maresuke also lived and stationed in this ancient mansion temporarily. During that time, as some of the residents of the mansion were fighting against the Japanese army, the women and the children in the mansion were bearing the pressure privately. Su Yingyuan’s grandson Su Wenzhi (1882–1946), who was graduated from the Chinese School in the Japanese Colonial Period, was the first district chief of Hu Nei under the order of the government in 1921. He developed the education of the villagers and improved the social customs; furthermore, he flourished the economy. The ancient mansion of the Su Family has witnessed the historical development of a family since the beginning of the Ching Dynasty.
