英文摘要
The project studied various descriptions of the Taiwanese official literati, such as Small Sea Travelogue by Yu Yonghe in early Ching Dynasty, and realized that the fear to the communicable subtropical diseases in Taiwan area in that period had grown to be collective unconsciousness among them. Their descriptions to the poison like damp atmosphere and severe humid heat in subtropical forest area were similar to those to the southern China by the Chinese medicine doctors in Sung and Yuan Dynasty. It was a place of evil and was full of unholy atmosphere. The disease was not just a metaphor of racial discrimination also contained a certain meaning in geology and culture. As a civilian encountered the savage surrounding, the fear and anxiety to get infected inside the official literati drove them to transfer the description to the reality into legendary ghost stories. Their analysis to the source of the communicable disease and the way using the medicine provided the evidence to the application of the both southern and northern expositions in Chinese medicine culture in Taiwan.
