英文摘要
“Kili no Bansha”, which was released in 1939, is the first novel with a focus on the Wushe Incident. The author Jihei Nakamura, during his travel in Taiwan, encountered Taichung State Governor Ikko Mizukoshi, the commander to carry on the suppression of Wushe in 1930. After acquiring the full story of the Wushe Incident from Mizukoshu, Nakamura then wrote this novel based on the information he received. By examining the writing position of the novel, this paper found that the narrative perspective of “Kili no Bansha” simply follows the official documents processed by Taiwan Governor-General Office. Hence, the novel is a represented text following big history. Its historical battlefi eld belongs to the male and the colonist. To the contrary, the indigenous female mentioned in the novel plays only a slim and belittled role. The paper seeks to examine the narrative threads and characters of “Kili no Bansha” in order to clarify the historical truth of the Wushe Incident. Furthermore, by investigating the history of naming the female who quietly survived after the sacrifice of most tribe’s people -- from Tadao Obin, Hatsuko Takayama, Hatsuko Hanaoka, Hatsuko Nakayama, to Cai-Yun Gao -- the paper will uncover the trace of the imprints that different colonists left on her life as well. The survivors of the Wushe Incident kept this memory hidden after going through the repressive actions of Japanese colonizers. Only after the 1970s, a few scholars and journalists started to explore the occurrence of the Incident and inspired the survivors to tell their sad stories. This precious oral history then remained. The paper intends to point out that there exists a historical dialectic relationship between big and small narratives in various texts related to the?Wushe Incident. Once these texts are compared, the fog of the history will begin to clear, and the historical truth of the Incident will be further clarifi ed.
