常民欣賞陣頭表演的時機，泰半悉屬神明進香、出巡繞境等慶典，使得 一般人誤以為廟會是陣頭的主要舞臺，而酬神則是陣頭的主要功能。但事實 上，令人避之唯恐不及的喪禮，也是陣頭的另一個演出天地，弔慰亡靈更是 陣頭的另一項演出使命。喪家孝眷人等和亡者的親朋好友之所以要耗資聘請 陣頭，其實不外乎幾項目的：（一）藉著陣頭的儀式性演出，讓亡者早登仙 鄉，往生樂土，也為生者祈得好運，使其否極泰來。（二）透過陣頭技藝性、 戲劇性、諧噱性的演出，以奠弔亡者，撫慰生者，既娛靈又娛人。（三）安 排陣頭演出，壯大整個喪禮、出殯隊伍的排場，突顯亡者尊榮及喪家的財力、 人脈。有鑑於臺灣民間喪葬陣頭的種類相當多元，表現出的文化更是讓人驚 豔，值得最後皆須面對「死亡」的我們，好好去認識與細究，故筆者遂將現 今臺地喪禮場合可見的各式文武陣頭稍加整理，希望能藉此對臺灣民間喪葬 陣頭進行初探工作，提供有心瞭解者參考。依筆者田野調查採集所得之資料 為基礎，再按各陣頭的主要表演性質作區別，則臺灣民間喪葬陣頭可細分為 「音樂喪葬陣頭」（以演奏曲牌或吟唱歌樂為演出形態的喪葬陣頭）、「儀 式喪葬陣頭」（能主持儀式或具有特殊宗教信仰意義的喪葬陣頭）、「小戲 喪葬陣頭」（富有民間小戲色彩的喪葬陣頭）、「大仙尪仔、僮仔喪葬陣頭」 （以操演各種大仙尪仔或僮仔為主的喪葬陣頭）共 4 類。實際上，商請喪葬 陣頭前來表演是陽世間眾人對亡者「用心」的展現，由於孝眷人等、親朋好 友與亡者之間有「親情」、「友情」關係的維繫，使得他們願意運用各種方 式，目的只希望亡者的後事能順利完滿，倍極哀榮，而聘請喪葬陣頭正是在 這樣的前提下所形成之民間習俗。

The opportunities people enjoy "din tao" (Parade Formation) are mostly in festivities such as pilgrimage and tour of inspection of Gods. It made people thought temple fair had to be the main stage of din tao, and offering thanks to the gods was the major function. Actually, funeral where a place to keep people away is another performing occasion of din tao. Furthermore, condoling the deceased is another mission of din tao. Following are the purposes of hiring din tao by the family and friends of deceased: (A) By means of ritual performance, boarding the deceased to paradise earlier and bring them toward a land of happiness. It also prays for good luck for the living, enabling them the calm after a storm. (B) Through the artistic, theatrical, and entertaining performance, it pays respect to the deceased and console the living. Amusing not only the spirit but also the viewers. (C) Arrange the performance of din tao to magnify the ostentation of funeral procession, to show off financial capability and personal networks of family of the deceased.In view of the diversity of din tao at folk funeral in Taiwan, it is worth understanding and studying. The author sorted all kinds of civil and military din tao and did a preliminary research for readers' reference.
