長老教會傳教士於開港後紛紛入臺，南部教會的巴克禮（Thomas Barclay, 1849－1935）於 1885 年創辦《臺灣府城教會報》，作為教會內部 訊息傳遞，以及堅實教徒信仰。過往對於該報刊的研究不少，多用於教會 史、社會觀察和語文研究，可見其資料豐富性。 然若我們仔細觀察，便能發現《臺灣府城教會報》在編輯過程中，明 顯是以教會發展為主要目標，帶有強烈的基督教色彩，以其教義與文化看 待世界。以及，教會內部對於教徒改宗後的形象書寫轉變，也成為信仰基 督教的文化優劣對比案例。因此，這些文本在書寫過程中，也以相同的知 識對觀察對象進行分類。本研究透過知識史的路徑，先分析長老教會看待 異教社會的觀點，再進一步藉由其對異教媽祖的看法，分析該報刊書寫的 知識建構方式，並從中考察隱藏於教會文本之中的臺灣社會情境，藉此證 明其史料價值。

Missionaries from the Presbyterian Church came to Taiwan after the opening of port. Thomas Barclay (1849-1935) of the Southern Church founded "Tâi-oân-hú-siâⁿ Kàu-hōe-pò" in 1885 as an internal message to the church and to strengthen the faith of the believers. There have been many studies on this newspaper, mostly used in church history, social observation and research in language and literature, which shows diverse materials. However, we can find that "Tâi-oân-hú-siâⁿ Kàu-hōe-pò"s main goal is the development of the church, with Christianity and it views the world with its Christian principles and culture. In addition, the change in the image of believers within the church after conversion has become a comparative case of the cultural pros and cons of belief in Christianity. Hence, in the writing process of these texts, the observation objects are also classified with the same knowledge. Through the path of history of knowledge, this study first analyzes the views of the Presbyterian Church on heathen society and then further analyzes the knowledge construction methods written in the newspaper based on its opinion on heathen Mazu. It examines the Taiwanese social situation hidden in the church texts and proves its historical value.
