近年來臺灣史研究日益蓬勃，地方志的編纂尤能注入本土精神，尤其人物志 的纂修打破過去著重資治及教化的目的，轉而彰顯地方人物的特殊性，從官方視 野走向大眾觀點。人物志在方志纂修具有重要的地位，以反映時代變遷及社會價 值觀為特色。屬於這二十年中部地區的縣（市）人物志計有2008 年出版的《臺中 市志》、2010 年出版的《續修臺中縣志》、《南投縣志》，及2018 年出版的《新修彰 化縣志》。這四部志書的人物志皆由專家學者編纂，秉持「生人不立傳」的原則， 網羅各行各業的翹楚，凡對地方有貢獻或影響者皆勾勒入傳。 本文評析四部志書人物志的入傳選擇、分類及史料運用的差別，比較其異同。 其中《南投縣志‧人物志》有傳統到變革的過渡色彩，而《臺中市志‧人物志》突 破傳統，力求分類的完整及大眾使用的功能，《續修臺中縣志‧人物志》在撰寫格 式及史料的運用成為《新修彰化縣志‧人物志》師法的對象。《新修彰化縣志‧人 物志》則開啟建構臺灣歷史人物傳記資料庫（TBDB）的序曲，企圖為方志學拓展 研究新領域。由四部志書可見近二十年人物志的纂修縮影，即纂修人員皆專家學 者，但受限於時間、經費、時代背景及撰稿者理念和主觀意識影響，而呈現不同成果。

Recent years has seen vigorous growth in research on Taiwan history and the compilation of gazetteers in particular has been infused with a nationalist spirit. Instead of serving the purposes of governance and education, the compilation of personages/ biographies in gazetteers now emphasizes the uniqueness of local people and switches from the official stance to the public perspective. In the past two decades, four gazetteers of central Taiwan have been compiled, namely Gazetteer of Taichung City published in 2008, Revised Gazetteer of Taichung County and Gazetteer of Nantou County in 2010, and Revised Gazetteer of Changhua County in 2018. Scholars compiling these gazetteers do not include any living personage but take in leaders from all walks of life with significant contributions or impacts. This study compares the chapter on personages/biographies of the above four gazetteers in terms of person selection and categorization as well as use of historical materials. The chapter on personages/biographies in Gazetteer of Nantou County showed transition from convention to transformation, while that in Gazetteer of Taichung City broke past traditions aiming for a complete categorization with features for general public usage. The Revised Gazetteer of Changhua County while adopting the writing format and use of historical materials in Revised Gazetteer of Taichung County, also initiated the establishment of the Taiwan Biographical Database (TBDB), with the aim to extend new frontiers for research on gazetteers. In sum, these four gazetteers epitomize the compilation of personages/biographies in the past two decades. Despite all those involved in the compilation being experts and scholars, time and budget constraints, varied historical backgrounds, different visions and ideologies of contributors result in diverse styles and contents of these gazetteers.
