The assumption that the general observation over the fact that man, in arranging things complying with ‘heavenly’ insinuations, reflects ‘TIEN’ emphasizes especially uncanny signs has tended to be systematized along with deepening knowledge on the subject. One example on hand is the remaining or incomplete ancient scroll Jui-ing T's, ‘Auspicious Images’ (No.P2683), of Tuen-Huan version. Out of the scroll only 42 pictures are now preserved and they can be classified into the following images: Turtles(No.1-6); Dragons(No. 7-37); Phoenixes(No. 38-42), with ‘White Tigers’ missing in accord with the theory that there should have been 4 images in all. Considering the manner with which the book was compiled, ‘Auspicious Images’ is kind of refernce book in form, except that its way of referring being itself becoming ‘opposite digression’ against the main text. So, as far as ancient literatures being concerned, ‘Auspicious’ scroll is not to be taken as proving evidence, just the case with the rest of Tuen-Huan written materials. Apparently, to take such kind of auspicious signs or images seen in this particular document as being closely related to politic power's rising or falling is absurd. But, on the other hand, it has to be admitted that in Chinese tradition in the past it is a deep-trenched idea with great influence in which the dynasties one after another yield their believing without doubt. For example, birth divination of an emperor of a new dynasty, propitious signs for coming peaceful age, strange omens with chaotic times, etc., with them a culture has developed to be taken with values. ‘Auspicious Images’ is but one form of graphic divinations which are supposed to be ‘read’ with equal importance as to the pictures and divining meaning. Unfortunately, the books preserved to the present time are mostly with the written parts left except a few, such as ‘Digram of Pushing Backs,’ being otherwise. Therefore it is impossible to see the original pictures. ‘Auspicious Images’ is among the few complete with botuh elements, so it is helpful to those who want to study these documents as well as evidences to their discovery.
