傳統生命觀認為人是靈魂與肉體的組合，但這已經不被主流學界所認同。科學主流觀點主張人的心靈並非來自於靈魂而是大腦，而且人死後也不會剩下任何（如靈魂之類）的東西繼續存活。本研究主張這樣的主流觀點並不能當成是一個定論，而僅是一個（或許較好的）假設。目前已有許多證據顯示，靈魂的假設有其具合理性的部分，可以做為一個具有挑戰性的競爭理論。

The traditional view of life considers a person as a combination of a soul and a body. But, the scientific view does not agree with this, and clams that the mind mainly comes from the brain rather than the soul. When a person dies, nothing left. In this paper, I argue that it is not proper to consider this scientific view as a solution. It is just a (perhaps better) hypothesis. In addition, there is evidence to show that the soul hypothesis is somewhat persuasive, and may become a competitive scientific theory.
