近年來因環境變遷日益顯著，永續發展成了高階政治，相關的課程與書籍也愈來愈多。然而國內與環境有關的課程或書籍，多以現代議題為主，並將焦點放在相關的政策或工程技術上，卻未探索剝削環境的思想因素。本文認為，由猶太－基督宗教的傳統、啟蒙運動演進到今日重視經濟發展與國家安全的主權國家，在這個演進過程中，人類不斷加重對環境的破壞。現在，環境議題首度讓人類感到我們只有一個地球，也認識到永續發展的重要性，如果人類齊心努力，必能改善地球環境，讓世代子孫在地球上安居樂業。

Our environmental deterioration has been more pronounced. The attention of environmental changes is completely across the board, which has elevated sustainable development to the realm of high politics. Courses and books about such topics are very popular. However, domestic environment-related courses and books are fixated on modern issues, and put focus on related policies or sciences/technologies. They ignore the source about why human exploited environment. This paper proposes the destruction of environment with such intensity and speed is rooted in an evolutionary process, that is, from Judeo-Christian tradition, Enlightenment, to today’s economy and security oriented sovereignty states. It is the first time now human beings understand only one earth we own and the importance of sustainable development. Through cooperation, we can improve our environment and make next generations live on the earth happily.
